Although watches are specifically made to tell time, watches have come a long way. From the traditional mechanical watch, all the way to the smartwatches that are loved by many, technology has certainly advanced in more ways than one.
That being said, there is a special form of a smartwatch that is specifically designed for active individuals and these devices are commonly known as fitness trackers.

For those of you who do not know, a fitness tracker is somewhat akin to a smartwatch, albeit that it has some features that you normally wouldn’t find in a traditional smartwatch.

Aside from that, it also comes with a heart rate monitor that will allow you to know how efficient your heart is when it comes to pumping blood. Another common feature of a fitness tracker is that you can also track the number of hours you sleep in a day. This is useful for people who think that they are not having enough sleep during the night.
With all of that being said, according to a study that was conducted a few years back, 200 female participants were given Fitbit, a popular watch company that is dedicated to selling fitness trackers.
About 89% of the participants have said that they constantly wear the device on their wrists and the only time they do not wear the device is when they are bathing or if they have to charge it.
All of the respondents, however, said that it made them more conscious about their daily habits- compelling them to actually get a move on. It feels more rewarding, especially if you are able to know exactly how many steps you’ve taken during the day.
Now, you might think that a fitness tracker is a perfect device, but that is actually not true. If anything, it is subject to a lot of discrepancies, especially when we are talking about cheap fitness trackers.
For one, fitness trackers are not accurate when presenting some data. This is evident if you are wearing quite an inexpensive one since the companies would have to cut back on some of the costs and some features are usually downgraded as a result.
From the same study above, there are some participants who have reported that when they do forget to wear their fitness trackers, they are less likely to be compelled to exercise during the day.
There are also some people that have developed a huge reliance on such devices that they cannot seem to live their lives without it.
As you can see, although some tout fitness trackers to be a godsend, especially for active people, it doesn’t come without its faults. Still, you will have to weigh its pros and cons first before actually making a purchase decision.
